Namba Jinja is
seated in the heart of Osaka and houses the spirit of the 16th emperor
of Japan, Nintoku Tenno. According to tradition it was originally
consecrated by Nintoku's second son, the Emperor Hanzei, sometime in the
early 5th century and was since moved twice until it came to its
present location in 1583. The entire complex burnt down during the
second world war and only a temporary shrine existed until
reconstruction was finished in 1974.
